Our recent Spring Festival at Mount Tarrengower was a wonderful celebration of the season and a chance for our students to connect with the beauty of nature. Classes 1-7 and many parents enjoyed a scenic walk around the historic poppet head taking in sweeping views over Maldon and the surrounding area.
While trekking down and around the mountain, we explored the bush, played nature games, and sketched the landscape. We took time for reflection with bush meditation and sang seasonal songs on ANZAC Hill. Our hope was for the children to connect meaningfully with each other and with the land.
Mount Tarrengower’s history is deeply intertwined with the First Nations cultures of the Dja Dja Wurrung people, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years. The mountain holds spiritual and cultural significance for these indigenous communities, and it is consider it a place of great importance. The day ended with joyful play at the Maldon Botanical Gardens and Oval, where students and parents had the option to participate in a range of traditional games.
These meaningful seasonal experiences foster creativity, curiosity, connection to nature and a strong sense of community, which are key values at the heart of our approach at Castlemaine Steiner School.
