There wills to arise out of the World’s-Womb,

Wellbeing News

Even though I will be working from home, this Friday I will be wearing PURPLE! I invite you to do your part in celebrating Wear it Purple! day on Friday 27th August.

Wear it Purple! day aims to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. It is an annual day to acknowledge, celebrate and remind schools, workplaces, universitiesyouth organisations and our broader community to:

  • have conversations around gender identity and sexual orientation with young people

  • to create supportive and safe spaces for young LGBTIQA+ people so that they can feel proud of who they are and who they may become, every day

The 2021 theme is ‘Start the conversation…keep it going’I invite you to create a safe space at home for conversations that support and validate the LGBTIQA+ people in your lives and communityThis provides a positive and affirmative message to the children and young people in your home that may be exploring and/or already identifying with their own gender identity and sexual/romantic orientations

With Regional Victoria returning to lockdown, now and as we continue through this, I encourage you to be checking in regularly with your children about how they are feeling. We might think our children are doing ok, as we watch over them with their remote learning, play and/or online activities at home during this time. It’s important to be asking them directly.

Be mindful that our children are also watching us. They are watching how we are managing, as we juggle: working from home; COVID restrictions affecting our time with family and friendsaltered selfcare routines, less leisure activities and the loss of our usual community connections. What they possibly see is that we are busier, more stressed, less available…

How do we counteract this? We ask. We be explicit. We talk about mental health. We talk, at an ageappropriate level, about how we can all have up and down days, experience both positive and negative emotions, and that it’s important to talk about this and to seek help from a trusted adult, when they need to. As we also need to, as adults.

Increased levels for youth mental health and suicide are pressing concerns right now in our broader community with the ongoing effects of COVID-19 impacting on schools, family life, work and our community activities

Please remember: It’s ok to ask the difficult questions. Talking about suicide or self-harm does not increase the risk. If you are uncomfortable with asking the difficult questions, or concerned about a change in behaviour or the mental health for your child/adolescent, then please seek professional assistance i.e.: GP, psychologist.

Survey's currently in circulation!

We know it is an overwhelming time, and we are deeply appreciative of the time many of you have given already to the survey’s we have sent to you. Whilst time consuming, this information from you, the parent community, is crucial for how we continue to improve and build CSSK for the future.

To clarify, there are 2 surveys currently with parents;

Independent Schools Victoria – sent emails directly to families with a personal access link. This is the annual parent satisfaction survey that we do each year, but is now collated by ISV. To help locate this in your inbox, it was sent on the 12th of August, and unfortunately we in the Office cannot assist with a resend.

NIODA – is the consultancy that is currently assisting CSSK with the development of a strategic plan. Their survey is a short ranking exercise of key information they have gathered so far in the consultation process. We estimate it will take anywhere from 10 mins to 30 mins to complete. Below is the message and link again from NIODA;

This email was sent on the 11th of August.

Once again we thank-you in advance for your contribution that will help shape the future of the Castlemaine Steiner School & Kindergarten.

Enrolment News

Hello Everyone,

There’s been lots of exciting things happening recently with Enrolments!

Scholarships are still open for 2022 enrolments. For further information head to this link – Scholarships. The close date is 6th September for applications.

We held a virtual Prospective Parent Information night via zoom last week. It was a fantastic evening and we met many great new families. Future dates for this type of event will be coming soon too.

Next year we are expanding our programming to offer a 3-4 year old Kinder. Enrolments for 2022 are still being processed, along side Ring-A-Rosie for Term 4 this year. Worth noting that from next year we will no longer be offering Ring-A-Rosie due to this expansion in Kinder programming.

Prep enrolments for 2022 are still finalising too.

Take care everyone and see you all onsite again soon.

Warm regards, Tracey.

Class 1 News

Class One has had a lovely time back on site for these last few weeks, enjoying the appearance of Spring peeking around the corner with new flowers and blossoms appearing and lots of very busy birds singing and flying around. The bulbs we planted in Autumn have started to flower and we and our Class 6 buddies worked very hard in planting out 47 bush seedlings around the perimeter of the yard. We have had some inventive play with the design & construction (by the children) of some new swings that involved much discussion and working together to make sure that they could be used safely.
We have finished our ‘Green Grass Grew All Around’ (Literacy) Main Lesson and have just started on ‘The Four Friends’ (Maths) Main Lesson which introduces the four processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division so Parents, you will be lucky enough to enjoy meeting, with your children, Mini Minus, Paddy Plus, Maxine Multiply and King Dom Divide. The children who were here last Friday have already decided on who they individually most relate to.
Late Friday we walked out to the Bush Food Island to have our snack. We heard lots and lots of frog singing, had a Chuff lead us up the path, noticed that the long line of busy ants that we saw last time were no longer travelling up and down the path and observed new buds starting to swell.
Enjoy the coming of Spring, though also be prepared for a last blast of Winter that generally happens at the end of August.
Cheers, Anna

Feldenkrais The RE evolution of Motion

Are you willing to run smooth, free, and a little like you are flying?

Here is your chance! Jae Gruenke, the founder of The Balanced Runner™, is offering an online camp especially for Australia!

Keep reading if you would like your running dreams to come true.

Once upon a time, I loved running; running was my medicine. But three years ago, I started to struggle. Something felt not smooth in my pelvis, and my right ankle was not like it used to be. I was confused, not knowing how to improve the relationship between my pelvis and my right ankle.

I did give up for a while, thinking maybe this is normal after having two kids, and assuming that discomfort was normal for my age.

However I wasn’t happy with letting go of my running because running is one of my most healing mental health activities.

I started looking for help and support to deal with my limitations, and luckily I  came across Jae Gruenke. The beginning of my running transformation was coming…

Jae uses the Feldenkrais Method intelligently to improve mobility and find a natural rhythm again. I started to follow her classes, and I learnt how to take care of myself before, during and after running!

And since then, I am running with more clarity and joy every time.

I have learnt how to run:

  • better
  • faster
  • more gracefully, like when I was a child
  • not pushing, pulling or feeling pain

Don’t miss out if you feel inspired by this story and would like to improve your running! It will be the first time that Jae is offering The Balanced Runner Online Camp especially for Australia!

Connecting Harcourt Families & Ride Sharing?

Hello Steiner families
We are a family living in Harcourt with Sonny in Class 2 and are wondering if there are any other families at the school, who live in Harcourt or nearby and would be interested in exploring opportunities to share lifts to or from school, once or twice a week. This could also work for any families who live in Castlemaine on our route to school. We are hoping to ease the time and energy involved in the daily drive – and perhaps an opportunity to forge another connection within the school community as we would want to get to know you a little too of course.
Many thanks,
Bron, Terry, Sonny and Kit
