Term 2 Week 7

Can I Know what it is "to be"
So that true life can find itself
Again in soul's creative urge?
I feel that I am granted power
To make my Self, as humble part,
At home within the cosmic Self.

From The Calendar of the Soul by Rudolf Steiner

Growing Abundance

We’ve been talking to Growing Abundance about providing lunches next term.  At other local schools, they deliver meals in biodegradable packaging.  However we’d like to make the lunches packaging free as much as possible. This will probably mean devising a special menu for our school but it should also mean a broader range of lunch choices than we’ve had.

Growing Abundance have a fundraising campaign underway to support their fantastic community projects and social enterprises.  They also offer regular food related workshops.  If you’re not familiar with their work, check out the Growing Abundance website or Facebook page.

Craft group activities

Craft group are spending the next few Wednesday mornings making syrups, salves and rubs to help support our wellbeing during the Winter months.  A leaflet has gone home or get in touch with Aleesha for more information.

With love

Kindergarten News

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

The children have been cooking up a storm, and Huw, Alex and Zone have been cooking up a storm outside- our new swing is being installed very very soon.

This is a really exciting development.

I am looking forward to seeing the children using the swing.

Warm regards on the cold days

French News

Bonjour tour le monde!

As we head toward winter our French classes are working on a number of themes. In keeping with their current Main Lesson topic, Business Maths, Class Six are now counting ever upward to 100 (or cent!) and calculating what exactly they can spend their euros on … and our reading of Le Petit Prince continues. Class Seven and Eight have begun to put together all of their grammatical knowledge gained this term, in composing a short description entitled Ma Classe. We await some very creative results!

And just a reminder that we will ‘rest’ our French storybook sessions each Tuesday for the remainder of term as many students are increasingly busy with lots of other commitments at the moment. We will revisit the idea at the commencement of next term, perhaps for rainy days – of which I’m sure we have many ahead!

In the meantime, keep a lookout on the library shelves over coming weeks for the availability of several French storybooks for borrowing, which will either be bilingual or very simple text with illustrations, which should also be fun.

au revoir

Spanish News

Preps: This term we have been singing some seasonal autumn songs and are about to start some winter songs. This is such a participative class, they really sing with enthusiasm! Which is lovely to experience.

Class 1: During this term the children have been listening to a story about a little toad (un sapito), a rock (una roca), the sea (el mar), the sun (el sol), the wind (el viento), the earth (la tierra) and the waves (las olas). Now they have started to tell the story themselves!

Class 2: Our story of “The dun rat and her red little house” (La rata parda y su casita roja), which involved a few different animals and some colours has come to its end. A good way to finish was playing the bingo game based on this story. Now the children have started listening to the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which is the representation of the Virgin Mary in México. She appeared to an indigenous Mexican man some time after the arrival of Spanish people to Mexican lands. It is a story full of awe and wonder…

You will read about classes 3, 4 and 5 in the next penny.

Lets enjoy winter (disfrutemos el invierno)

Saludos afectuosos,

Raziel

Help keep us warm

We have just launched a Pozible crowdfunding campaign to raise some much needed funds to improve our staff accommodation heating facilities. Our staff are volunteers committing a year to working with 14 – 17-year-olds. They do an awesome job and we need to look after them – so this project is for them.

*One of the staff is a former CSSK student Ruby Huzzzey!*

Up until now the staff have coped with 40 year old heaters that are not efficient and don’t keep them warm for long. This makes winter an interesting time as their woollen garments are always on and at some point it would be nice to enter their rooms and take off a layer or two!
We need to raise $15 000 to replace ALL of the heaters before winter really kicks in.  Can you help?

Anthroposophic Medicine and Therapy Workshops

We are writing to let your school community know about our upcoming study week in anthroposophic medicine and therapy. It is a great opportunity for anyone working in a health profession to experience how the source of knowledge that enlivens their children’s education can also offer possibilities for medical and therapeutic professions.

We hope as well that by strengthening the knowledge and experience of health professionals in your parent body, the work of your school is also enhanced.
